- My understanding about the audience hasn’t change since the first time because the definition of an audience always has been the same. Even though, there can be different groups of audience for different genres. Audiences are set based on different genres.
- Rhetorical situation, is bit different because rhetorical situation is based on circumstance of an event or could also based on the set goals, which aren’t going to be the same every time. Key concept of rhetorical situation is used based on on different kind of goals and situations.
- Genre is basically different categories of things, such as music, movies, books and more. Genre is something that separates audiences into different groups, where people gather up with similar interest into many different things, such as movies and musics. For Ex; group of people that are into hip-hop music might not like the jazz music, which has its own group of people.
- A term reflection can be used and understood in different ways. For math, it means something different than what it means in an English class. Reflection, is when you read or watch your own piece of work or someone else’s piece of work to state your opinion about the work.
- Discourse Community is set group of people who shares common goals and works together to achieve the goal. It’s also where people use the concept of intercommunication among the members to accomplish their set goals.
- Knowledge is what you already know about specific stuff and it could also be what you have learned about specific stuff through research.
MA 2 – Finalized Research Proposal.
The research topic I will be working on for this paper is Individual in community and to be specific it will be discourse community for the soccer club. The objective of this project is to get better at writing primary research paper and have better understanding about what the topic is and also what research paper requires.
Some of the research questions i have set for myself are; How is the discourse community different from the other sport communities?. How are some goals for the soccer discourse community?. Since I will be doing the paper based on an Individual in the community i will be meeting some people from the specific soccer club to learn more about the community and will be asking them questions about the community.
It is very important to have facts when it comes to writing a research paper, which is the reason i will be closely following examining some soccer game to understand the players and coaches field and out of field relationship, also examine their language on the pitch and off the pitch, and mostly how they share a common goal on and off the pitch.
I will also talk to some of the players to know how they share common goals and how do they intend to fulfill their goal every game. how as a community helps them get better or worse every game and how important it’s to share common goal to achieve the target as a discourse community of a specific sport.
Blog post 7 – Knowledge.
To me, knowledge is what you already know about something before having to research more about it and learning is when you use other helpful stuff like, books and other piece of work to help yourself have better understanding about specific topic. Hyland defines knowledge as “demonstrating disciplinary credentials, showing themselves to be reasonable, intelligent co-players in the community’s efforts to construct knowledge and well versed in its tribal lore.”
Collaboration plays a huge role in knowledge- making process because collaborating is gathering up information in different ways for the same topic to gain your understanding about the topic, so collaborating provides you with much more extra information to learn and gain your knowledge from.
While researching my project I will be focusing more into how collaboration of people brought the discourse community of soccer together and how it has expended over the years. Knowing that soccer is a huge community, when your talking about entire community and not a singe team.

Soccer Community.
The research topic I will be working on for this paper is soccer community. The objective of this project is to get better at writing primary research paper, have better understanding about what the topic is and also what research paper requires. I will also be trying to persuading people that all the known sports aren’t just sports. Sports are known to be more than sports or way to earn large income. To many people, it’s everything they’ve got or they want to do for rest of their lives.
My potential audience for this project could be the international soccer fans, coaches or anyone that enjoys sport. I believe soccer is the biggest and most recognized sport in the world. It’s also known to be the most diverse sport in the world. It exists everywhere and being played everywhere. Soccer is an important topic for me because I connect to it personally. Sport unites people together and gives the life time experience. I want to share my personal experience and share my part to the others and encourage them to go and share their life time experience with their love ones.
What I am aiming of this research paper is to identify how one discourse community is different from the other. Since I will be doing the paper based on an Individual in the community i will be meeting some people from the specific soccer club to learn more about the community and will be asking them questions about the community. Some of the question i will be asking are; How is the soccer community different from the others, and do they have different way of talking or key terms.?
I will be reading online articles and from the college library. I will also be checking in with the teacher to see if i am taking my paper to the right path. I am also planing to interview some individuals from the club to get more information about the community. Some of the challenges I might face during this project is that since I am doing worldwide soccer, so I might not be able to put out everything because international soccer is a broad topic to discuss about.
Blog post 6 – Discourse Community.
The only discourse community i remember being in is a soccer club community. I never knew this could be a discourse community till now. It amazed me and it’s really cool getting to learn new things like this which connects back to memories in past. In Swales’s text he defines discourse community into six different characteristic, which helps the audience, including myself have better understanding of the claim he’s aiming to make. Every discourse have different goals set, but one common goal for every community is to achieve the goal they’ve set for themselves.
For the club i was in, the goal we had set for ourselves was to win the championship, keep on being competitive and improve our play day by day. The communication was the most important factor to achieve that goal. We needed to communicate on the pitch and outside the pitch. We had to communicate using the field language in the pitch. Language such as ; man on, to your left, through ball, cross, shoot, don’t be fancy, run back to cover your position, cover his position on the left/right if he goes up high, tackle, slide tackle, etc.
MA#2 Activity 4 – Research topic reflection.
I chose this topic because I have general knowledge about the sport and some of the import things that can help me have better understanding about the community. Since this is the first primary research paper i will be doing, so it’s important for me start with something easier topic which i have some knowledge about.
The assignment requires us to have 7-10 pages, which means it’s going to be a long paper to type with so much of information. So, I will be gathering information from everywhere possible. I will be reaching out to some people who have coached and been part of the discourse community of soccer for a long time. Some senior players who are retired, and some active coaches and players.
It will be hard to gather primary information because every single info I gather can’t be secondary. And i will be talking briefly about what the community is like and since the soccer community is an international community involving millions of people, it will be a detailed paper.
I will be including the places where the community is more popular and how the sport it self is different and popular all over the world. I will also be sharing my personal experiences about the sport, including my memories and struggle. I will also analyze the experience of witnessing the fans community of the discourse soccer community.
MA#2 Activity 3- Draft Research questions.
My topic- Discourse community of soccer.
QUESTIONS:
How do the discourse community of soccer plan to communicate their play/stats?
What are some key terms they use?
What does the community mean to them and how did they formed it in a first place?
MA#2 Activity 1 – Prompt Reflection.
Major assignment is asking us to write a research paper based on topic we have chosen. It also require us to use some scholarly articles to prove our points and also to support our claims. I have done secondary research paper before, but since this one will be primary research paper, it will be quite different for me and surely something new to learn. I will have to brainstorm and do lots of research to push this paper in a right direction. This will be a very complicated paper for me to write because English not being my first language it will be hard for me express my paper. Researching will consume so much time, and i will have to read things twice or may be even three to four times because sometimes it’s really hard for me to understand what the author is trying to say.
Blog post 5 – Reflection.
The text Yancey wrote defines reflection as ” the dialectical process by which we develop and achieve specific goals for learning, strategies for reaching those goals, and means of determining weather or not we have met those goals or other goals. The website I used defines reflection as”. The website I chose defined reflection as ” A reflection paper is an analytical piece of academic writing, which includes student’s thoughts about something like a motion picture, book, event, person, etc.”
The word “reflection” can be used in different ways and it could mean different things. Such as, in math class reflection means something bit different than what it means in an English class. According to Yancey, “reflection allows writers to articulate the learning that has taken place, to set goals and to revise the writing”. I completely agree with the way Yancey defined the term reflection.
I think it’s also an important thing to learn because if you actually take your time to reflect back to all of you’re work, you will see the progress to your writing and you will also see how you have evolved your writing over time. You start seeing your mistakes and it will also help you better understand there are multiples ways to construct same sentences or to crop down a long sentence in one small and better one.
Blog Post #4- Audience.
I define audience as the people who reads, listens and gives you criticize your piece of work to make you a better artist. Anzaldua contributes that there can be different kind of audiences which could exist depending on situations, For Example, everyone has different vision to different things, which is the reason we judge things differently. People from a different nation might have different thinking about their fashion and when they move to a new country they might be judge based of their fashion. Even after reading both the texts, my definition of an audience stayed the same and it’s probably because both of the texts defined the audiences similarly as I did.
Anazaldua contributes the idea that a piece of writing can be written in a very informative and primary way and can still reach out the specific group of audience. For Instance: he piece could be for everyone because it’s about personal life experiences and I am sure everyone has one. It might not be similar to her, but we all have struggles in life.
Plus she has written her text with full of emotion and sympathy to the audience, which I think is more effective than Bitzer and Bazermaan’s text because those text wasn’t about emotion. I think we connect to emotion faster and stronger than with information. My definition of audience hasn’t change a bit and it’s because all the texts I have read defined the audience in a similar ways.
