My Quartet: in class reflection.

The main idea was how the technologies has advanced over the year and how it has impacted the education industries. How the technologies has taken over books and all. For Ex: no books are digital and the hard copies aren’t used as much.

In quartet two she stated some statistic about the percentages of student graduated from high and college. She said “only 28% of Americans complete four years of college”. She also stated other facts like that in support to her claims. Less percentage of student graduates and wen to college in the past, but now that has gone up by a huge percentage. high school graduation has gone up to 89%. Digital world plays a huge role to it.

Blog post 11- Composing in Context.

  • Our new project in the course is basically taking the information/researches we have done and put them into three different genres. It’s purpose is to help the audiences understand the same information in sorter period of time and help them understand better, rather than having to read and understand long paper. One of the genre is given to us, which happens to be infographic. Other two is up to us to decide.
  • This project is a huge shift comparing to the last one we did, because the last one we researched about the topic in a various ways and also gathered info from different people, sites and professor himself. Now, we are putting that gathered info into other three different types of platform. Good thing is we already have the information, but the challenge is how to divide those info into three different genres and also to put it all together in a shorter version without losing any information.
  • We have to keep many things into consideration in mind during this project because losing any information and detail of the research about the project could lead the audience to misunderstand the information we’re serving them with. Other thing we have to consider is using right pictures, or info at a right place so the image or the info doesn’t mislead the message to a different path.

New Key- in class.

Yancey’s text talks about writing in many different ways and even defines writing into many different ways. In the text she also said “Writing is alive when it is being written, read, remembered, contemplated, followed-when it is part of human activity….”, this could be one of the way to define writing. In the text she also discusses what writing should be like.

MORE TO COME……

MA3. Activity-1: Potential genre proposal.

  • For this major assignment we will be using three different genres to present our report in order to make it easier and faster to understand for the audiences. Out of the three genres, one is given to us, which is Infographics. Other two genres are up to us to us to choose depending on what we want to do and how we would like to present our informative report.
  • For my report, I have been thinking of doing an interview as one of the genre and it’s best for my report because my report required actual field research, so i went to talk to coaches and player and asked them questions, which was like a short interview it self. I believe interviewing would actually make it more realistic because it will be some actual members from the soccer community sharing their thoughts, feelings, desires, dreams and etc.
  • Choosing a genre for your piece of work is important because the genre is selects the type of audience. Even the amount of audience and the theme of the work can depend on the type of genre you decide to use for your work. For Example: If you try to send out serious message out to the public through comedic genre than the audience might not take it serious.
  • Writing needs humor, but humor within the piece isn’t taken seriously. So, it’s important to have sets of genre for your work depending on the type of message your trying to put across the world. Genre can also be used to raise the entertainment value, but can’t always be used to express emotions.

Blog Post 9- Define genre.

My understanding of Genre is basically different categories of things, such as music, movies, books and more. Genre is something that separates audiences into different groups. Genre could be used to determine the different groups of people with different interests.

Discourse communities are group of people sharing common goals and have common set of goals and genre is also about different categories of things which can be appreciated by different group of people with different interests. For Ex; people in the discourse community of soccer will only have set goals relating to soccer. Even though, they can like other sports or other thing, but they will not focus on other as much as the specific community they’re involved in.

For my Assignment 3, i will be be focusing on comedic genre and it’s probably because comedic genre has always catch my interest. I also think it’s one of the most challenging genre out there.

Blog post 8- purpose and research.

Grant Davie’s defines purpose and research some what different than mine. It could be because those two words can be used differently in different situations, which could mean different things. For Ex; for me, purpose is same as motive. Like, my purpose to have a college degree is to have better job and better living in the future.

Research is when you gather up information about specific topic or thing through different platforms such as; online searches, newspaper, articles, etc to gain your knowledge. Research can be used for many different purposes. One could be to gain an extra knowledge. Or it could also be used to do some experiments.

Grant Davie’s definition to purpose has a lot to do with the context of how the narrator of the story create rhetorical discussions, understanding how the difference within the discussion helps in responding through the text.

When it’s about general research it’s easier because half of things about your research is something that audience will have basic knowledge of, but the primary research is harder because it requires much more extra knowledge and research. Primary research also requires facts and evidence for it to support your ideas.

Other thing that primary research challenges you with is that, primary research comes with limitations because the research requires to be scholarly, but the general research doesn’t require fact check or approvals of some others.

MA 2. Activity 12 – Short report.

  • so far, i have researched for some of the scholarly articles from the UCBA library. And i have also emailed some of the coaches asking for little bit of their time to answer some of my questions. I am not hundred person ready to start typing my paper yet, because i have bit more research to do. Since i am writing the paper on specific sport community, it ‘s hard to gather up information, which could help me support my claims.
  • I am also hoping to find more resources though more people and more books or articles. Since i have been a part of some discourse communities in the past i know how the community functions, it will be easier for me to understand the functionality of these community.
  • I have been on soccer teams before which are also known to be discourse community which my paper is going to be about, so I have some basic knowledge to help me prove my claims.

MA 2. Activity- 7 : Establish plan for field research.

  • Since this research paper is based on primary research, it will take some level of facts and evidence to support my claims. I will be using much of the resources from the articles I have found from the UCBA library. I am writing about the discourse community of specific sport, which is soccer. I will be meeting up with some different coaches to see how they see their community differently than other discourse communities.
  • Some of the other steps i will be taking to help myself with this paper is going out to some of my friends who are involved in this discourse community and do small survey on what they fell and think about the community. Also ask them questions about the discourse which may help me provide some information about the community and how they’re different from the other communities.
  • I am also watching some interviews online of professionals who shares their views about the sport and I believe it will help because to most of the professionals it’s more than just a sport and they treated like their entire life depends on it. I am predicting that what they have to say about their involvement in a professional level may help me understand more about the community.

M.A 2- Activity 5 ( Refinement research Questions).

  • Some of the question I will be asking in search for the answers are;
  1. What are some key terms used within the discourse community of soccer and how are those words used differently in daily basis?
  2. Why can’t all the sports have one discourse community instead of one for each sport?.
  3. How big can a discourse community of soccer community?
  4. Does fans counts as the members of the community?

I believe the questions above meets the requirements of what I need to know about my topics. I think the questions above have to be answered in order for the key terms we have discussed in class (audience, genre, discourse community and rhetorical situation) to be valid for the assignment#2.
